A mandatory, enforced standard

Unlike the voluntary ANSI Z80.3, AS/NZS 1067.1 is mandatory under Australian Consumer Law. The ACCC actively tests products from the market, and non-compliant sunglasses can be recalled with significant penalties for suppliers. This makes correct sourcing non-negotiable for the AU/NZ market.

Mandatory labelling

• Lens category number (0–4) on a swing tag or label
• A clear statement of the category meaning
• Driving suitability warning for Category 4
• Supplier identification

Category 4 lenses are legal to sell in Australia but must be labelled as never suitable for driving — get this wrong and the whole lot can be recalled.

UV protection requirements
