Custom Sunglasses for UK Importers & Brands
UKCA and CE conformance, post-Brexit import procedures, UK VAT and duty guidance, and reliable logistics for British eyewear brands and distributors.
Selling sunglasses in United Kingdom
The United Kingdom is a sophisticated, design-led eyewear market, and since Brexit it operates its own conformity framework alongside continued recognition of CE marking during the transition period. LumiShades supplies UK brands, opticians and distributors with fully documented, conformant sunglasses and flexible delivery terms including door-to-door DDP into Great Britain.
UK standard: UKCA + EN ISO 12312-1
Sunglasses in the UK are classified as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and must conform to the relevant designated standard — in practice BS EN ISO 12312-1 (the British-adopted version of the EU standard). Conformity is marked with the UKCA mark for the Great Britain market; CE marking continues to be accepted under transitional arrangements, and the UK government has indefinitely extended recognition of CE marking for many product areas — confirm the current position for eyewear with your compliance advisor before printing packaging.
Conformity requires a technical file, type-examination by an approved/notified body, and a UK Declaration of Conformity. LumiShades maintains the test reports and technical documentation needed to support UKCA and CE marking, and we label packaging with the lens category and required marks. Note that Northern Ireland follows EU rules (CE/UKNI), so confirm your distribution footprint.
Import duties, VAT & customs
Sunglasses are classified under commodity code 9004 10 in the UK Global Tariff. The duty rate on sunglasses is typically low (around 2%), but the larger cash-flow item is import VAT at 20%, charged on the customs value plus duty plus freight. VAT-registered importers can usually reclaim import VAT, and postponed VAT accounting can ease cash flow — discuss with your accountant.
Post-Brexit, goods from China clear directly into GB customs; an EORI number is required to import. Landed cost = FOB price + freight + ~2% duty + 20% import VAT + clearance fees. For smaller orders and e-commerce sellers, our DDP service delivers to your door with duty and clearance handled; established importers often prefer FOB or CIF for freight control.
Logistics & lead time to the UK
We ship to Felixstowe, Southampton and London Gateway, plus air freight into Heathrow and East Midlands. Indicative transit: express air 4-7 days for samples; air freight 6-10 days; ocean to UK ports roughly 32-40 days port-to-port via the Suez routing. Add clearance and inland delivery to reach your delivered date.
For a UK seasonal launch, plan 7-10 days for samples, 25-35 days production and ocean transit, with a buffer around Chinese New Year. Sunglasses are cube-light, so UK importers under ~10 CBM often ship LCL cost-effectively, while full ranges justify an FCL container.
