Custom Sunglasses for Australian Importers & Brands

Mandatory AS/NZS 1067 conformance, ACCC labeling rules, GST and duty guidance, and reliable shipping to Australian eyewear brands and distributors.

Overview

Selling sunglasses in Australia

Australia has the strictest mandatory sunglasses regime of any major market: AS/NZS 1067 is enforced by law and the ACCC, reflecting the country's high UV environment. LumiShades manufactures to AS/NZS 1067 lens-category and labeling requirements and ships to Australian brands, distributors and promotional buyers with full documentation.

Compliance

Australian standard: AS/NZS 1067 (mandatory)

In Australia and New Zealand, sunglasses and fashion spectacles are subject to the mandatory standard AS/NZS 1067 (in Australia, given legal force as a consumer product safety standard under the Competition and Consumer Act and enforced by the ACCC). This is not voluntary: non-conforming sunglasses cannot legally be supplied. The standard classifies lenses into categories 0-4 by luminous transmittance, sets UV protection requirements, and mandates specific labeling — including the lens category number and a description of suitable use (for example, category 4 lenses are not safe for driving).

LumiShades manufactures and tests to AS/NZS 1067, applies the required lens-category labeling and swing-tags, and supplies test reports for your compliance records. Australia's intense UV makes genuine UV400 protection a real safety matter, not a marketing claim — every LumiShades lens is UV400-verified.

Duties

Import duties & GST

Sunglasses are classified under tariff heading 9004 in the Australian customs tariff. The general duty rate on sunglasses from China is typically 0-5% (and the ChAFTA China-Australia Free Trade Agreement may allow a preferential/zero rate with a valid Certificate of Origin — well worth claiming). GST at 10% applies on the customs value plus duty plus freight and insurance for commercial imports, and is generally claimable by GST-registered businesses.

Landed cost = FOB price + freight + duty (potentially 0% under ChAFTA) + 10% GST + clearance. We can issue a ChAFTA Certificate of Origin to support a preferential duty claim. For smaller Australian buyers and e-commerce sellers, our DDP service delivers door-to-door; established importers typically use FOB or CIF.

Logistics

Logistics & lead time to Australia

We ship from Ningbo and Shanghai to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Fremantle and Adelaide, plus air freight into the major capital-city airports. Indicative transit: express air 4-7 days for samples; air freight 6-10 days; ocean to Australian east-coast ports roughly 16-24 days port-to-port — one of the faster ocean lanes from China. Add clearance and domestic delivery to your final timeline.

For an Australian seasonal launch (noting the Southern Hemisphere summer peaks Nov-Feb), allow 7-10 days for samples, 25-35 days production and ocean transit, and plan around Chinese New Year. The relatively short China-Australia ocean lane makes sea freight especially attractive for cube-light sunglasses.
