A Mirrored Sport-Wrap Team Program for an Australian Sports Brand
How an Australian sports brand equipped its athletes and retail line with high-coverage, mirrored sport wraps — built on lightweight TR90, fitted with polarized REVO lenses, and certified to AS/NZS 1067 category 3 for the country's punishing UV.
An Australian sports brand outfitting athletes and stores
The client was an established Australian sports and outdoor brand that sponsors cycling and running teams and sells through specialty stores nationwide. They wanted a single sport-wrap platform that could serve two purposes: a sponsored-athlete “team” version in club colorways, and a retail version sold to the public. Both had to perform under brutal Australian sun, sweat and high-speed wind.
Their previous supplier had delivered wraps that fogged, slipped during sprints, and — most damagingly — could not produce credible AS/NZS 1067 certification when a retailer's compliance officer asked for it. The brand came to LumiShades to fix all three problems and consolidate onto one well-engineered frame. The combined first order was 4,500 pairs: 1,500 team units across three club colorways and 3,000 retail units across four colorways.
Certified protection that performs at speed
Australia has the strictest mandatory sunglasses regime in the world. Under AS/NZS 1067, sunglasses sold in Australia must be tested and labeled to one of five lens categories, with category 3 the expected level for general sun glare and outdoor sport. The brand's retailers would not stock product without category-3 test reports and correct labeling — the exact thing the previous supplier had failed to supply.
Performance was equally demanding. Athletes needed high wrap coverage to block peripheral glare and wind, lenses that controlled glare off road and water without going too dark, ventilation to fight fogging, and grippy contact points that held during a sweaty sprint. The frame also had to survive being sat on, dropped and stuffed in a kit bag. And the team colorways had to match each club's exact Pantone references precisely, while the retail line needed a more premium finish.
The LumiShades approach
We engineered one base platform with two trim levels, so tooling and certification were shared across both versions.
Frame & materials. The wrap was injection-molded in TR90 nylon for a light, flexible, near-unbreakable frame, with an 8-base wrap curvature for full coverage. We added hydrophilic rubber nose pads and temple tips that grip harder when wet, plus vent channels at the brow and lens edge to cut fogging. Team units used color-injected TR90 in club colors; retail units got a soft-touch matte finish.
Lenses. Polarized 1.0mm TAC lenses with a REVO mirror coating and UV400, tuned to AS/NZS 1067 category 3 luminous transmittance. Mirror colorways were matched to each frame. Every lens passed cross-polarization and impact QC.
Branding. Team units carried pad-printed club logos on the temples plus a laser-engraved brand mark; retail units used a metal logo plate. Each shipped with a hard zip case, a microfiber cloth and an adjustable retention strap.
MOQ & lead time. The 4,500-pair combined order sat in our Wholesale/program tier. We delivered fit and color samples in 10 days, ran two fit revisions to dial in the nose-bridge for the athletes, and completed production in 30 days.
Compliance. Full AS/NZS 1067 category-3 test reports, UV-transmittance data and correct category labeling were issued for every SKU before shipment, so the retail rollout cleared compliance review immediately.
One platform, both channels, fully certified
Every SKU shipped with valid AS/NZS 1067 category-3 documentation, and the retail line cleared each stockist's compliance check without a single hold. Sponsored athletes reported no slipping or fogging across a full racing season, and the field defect/return rate came in at 0.6%, far below the brand's previous supplier. Strong sell-through and zero certification friction led the brand to scale the retail buy by 38% on the second order and add a photochromic lens option to the platform.
“Our last supplier couldn't give us AS/NZS 1067 paperwork and our riders complained the wraps slipped. LumiShades fixed both. One frame now covers our team and retail ranges, fully certified, and the mirror lenses look the part.” — Product Director, Australian sports brand
