DDP Shipping for Sunglasses Explained

DDP — Delivered Duty Paid — is the “just put it on my doorstep” option, and it is popular with brands that do not want to touch logistics. But the convenience has trade-offs. Here is how DDP works for sunglasses and when it is the right call.
What DDP includes
Under DDP, the seller delivers the goods to the buyer’s nominated address with everything paid: export clearance, freight, insurance, import duty, taxes and final delivery. The buyer simply receives the cartons. It is the most buyer-friendly Incoterm.
What is bundled into a DDP price
- Factory-to-port trucking and export clearance
- International freight (air or sea)
- Destination port handling and customs clearance
- Import duty and (where applicable) VAT/GST
- Last-mile delivery to your door
When DDP makes sense
| Scenario | DDP fit |
|---|---|
| First-time importer | Excellent — no learning curve |
| Samples / small orders | Excellent — speed and simplicity |
| No customs broker in-house | Strong |
| Large, repeat container programs | Often better on FOB for cost control |
| Markets with complex clearance | Strong — offload the risk |
The trade-offs
DDP costs more per unit because the seller prices in logistics risk and margin. You also lose visibility into the freight and duty line items. For large, predictable programs, FOB with your own forwarder is usually cheaper — compare in our Incoterms guide in the sourcing guides.
DDP buys you simplicity and predictability; FOB buys you control and lower cost. The right answer changes as your volume grows.
Importer-of-record nuance
In some countries (notably the US for certain goods, and parts of the EU), DDP requires the seller to act as importer of record, which can complicate VAT recovery. We structure DDP correctly per destination and advise where FOB is cleaner.

Why source this from Wenzhou with LumiShades
Wenzhou in Zhejiang Province is widely regarded as China’s eyewear manufacturing capital, producing a large share of the world’s sunglasses. That concentration matters to buyers: a deep local supply chain for acetate sheet, hinges, lens blanks, plating and packaging means shorter component lead times, easier color and material matching, and a workforce with decades of eyewear-specific skill. LumiShades has manufactured in this ecosystem since 2009, and our vertical integration — in-house injection molding, acetate cutting, CNC milling, lens tinting, decoration and quality control — means no part of sunglasses delivered duty paid is quietly subcontracted to a workshop you cannot audit.
For international buyers, that vertical control translates into accountability. When a single factory owns every step, defects are traced and fixed at source rather than bounced between vendors, and your specifications survive intact from first sample to bulk. We back this with 15+ years of experience, shipments to 60+ countries, more than 5 million pairs produced per year and a 98.5% on-time delivery rate. Our certifications — CE EN ISO 12312-1, FDA registration, ANSI Z80.3, AS/NZS 1067, REACH, ISO 9001 and BSCI audit — mean the compliance documentation your market requires already exists. Frequently asked questions
What is the minimum order quantity? Our MOQ is 50 pairs per design, which lets new brands and buyers validate sunglasses delivered duty paid before committing to volume. Pricing improves at 300, 1,000 and 5,000+ pairs, dropping as low as $2.10 per pair on volume programs.
How long does it take? Samples are ready in 7–10 days and bulk production runs 25–35 days, plus QC, packing and shipping. Using an existing frame shape avoids new tooling and is the fastest route; fully custom moulds and acetate builds add time.
Can you handle custom branding and compliance documentation? Yes. We decorate in-house (laser engraving, pad printing, metal logo plates, custom temple colors and packaging) and provide the UV, impact and standard-specific test reports your destination markets require. Tell us your target countries up front and we build the right documentation into the order.
